LocalLit book spotlight: 'Politically Correct Bedtime Stories' by James Finn Garner

I first read "Politically Correct Bedtime Stories" by James Finn Garner of Chicago nearly 25 years ago.

My mother had purchased a copy and it was sitting on her coffee table. The title caught my eyes, so I started flipping through the pages. I found the first story, "Little Red Riding Hood" so laugh out loud funny, she suggested I take the book home with me.

Last year, before the COVID-19 pandemic happened, the author spoke to WriteOn Joliet, an adult critique group that I lead.

I came home with two books that night: one is a book in Garner's Rex Koko, Private Clown Mystery series (which is on my "must read" stack).

The other is an autographed copy of the bedtime stories, which spent 60 weeks on the New York Times bestselling list.

I'll let you know in Tuesday's LocalLit newsletter if the book is still funny 25 years later.
