Memorial services for H. Harlan Baker, 96, of Mt. Morris, will be held on Saturday, July 13 at 11 a.m. at Disciples United Methodist Church, Mt. Morris.
Visitation will be held on July 13 from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church.
Harlan died on Friday, Feb. 22, 2019 at Pinecrest Manor Nursing Home, Mt. Morris
He was born on Dec. 12, 1922 in Pine Creek Township, the son of Harry H. and Bertha (Tholen) Baker.
He graduated from Mt. Morris High School Class of 1940 and he received his bachelor of science degree in Engineering from the University of Illinois in the Class of 1948.
Harlan married Marion Knodle on March 22, 1947 in Mt. Morris. She preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 2015.
He served in the United States Army during World War II in Europe.
Harlan worked as an engineer with the Marketing Department at Commonwealth Edison, retiring in 1981 after 35 years.
He lived his life in northern Illinois and Mt. Morris area.
Harlan was a member of the Mt. Morris Disciples United Methodist Church, Methodist Men’s Club, Methodist Board of Trustees, Kiwanis, National Woodcarver’s Association, Mt. Morris VFW Post 3639, Illinois State 4-H Committee, American Legion, Plainview Cemetery Board, Senior Citizens Board, Registered Professional Engineer State of Illinois, American Institute of Plant Engineers, and he taught at the Chicago Lighting Institute for six years.
Harlan is survived by his children, Robert (Maria) Baker, Cary, and Susan (Allen) Skaggs, Tampa, Florida; two grandchildren, Lina Marie, St. Paul, Minnesota, and Patrick Robert Baker, Woodstock; sister-in-law, Lila Baker, Mt. Morris.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marion; brothers, Francis and Sherwood Baker.
Burial was at Plainview Cemetery, Mt. Morris.
