Hinsdale Central names Brian Griffin interim head football coach

Hinsdale Central on April 8 announced the promotion of varsity assistant Brian Griffin as the interim head football coach. Griffin replaces Dan Hartman, who left last month to become the head coach at Lyons Township.

"[Griffin] will work immediately to move the program forward and will represent Hinsdale Central football until a head coach is anounced," said the Hinsdale Central athletic department via Twitter.

GIRLS SOCCER

Benet

Mia Tommasone scored Benet's lone goal, assisted by Mia Ullmer, in a 2-1 loss to Joliet Catholic on April 9. Eva Frantzen had three saves in goal for the Redwings (8-1, 1-1).

Tommasone and Cami Picha scored goals and Jaimee Cibulka assisted Picha's goal for the Redwings in a 2-1 win over Peoria Notre Dame on April 6. Sarah Bozych scored two goals and Cibulka, Abby Casmere, Dani Pullen, Tommasone, Maggie Roche and Nicole Burns each scored one in Benet's 8-0 win over Marian Catholic on April 5.

Picha scored a goal and assisted Cibuulka's score in a 2-1 win over Kaneland on April 3.

BASEBALL

Westmont

Matt O'Leary and Troy Schlicher scored runs and Riley Basit had an RBI in a 5-2 loss to Westmont on April 3. Zak Fischer struck out three over four innings for the Sentinels (7-5 0-1). Alex Marotta doubled and drove in two runs and O'Leary and Basit each scored runs for Westmont in an 18-3 loss to Naperville North on April 3.

Benet softball coach Jerry Schilf earned his 400th career win on April 6.
