Elmhurst, Lombard students receive Elmhurst Hospital scholarships

ELMHURST – The Elmhurst Memorial Hospital Foundation has awarded two $5,000 Thomas O. Myers Jr. and Shirley L. Myers Endowed Scholarships to Amy Choi of Elmhurst and Katherine Dixon of Lombard.

A scholarship committee chooses the winners, who are children of Elmhurst Hospital employees, each year based on academic achievement, evidence of leadership and community service, and a written essay describing their decision to pursue a career in health care, according to an Elmhurst Hospital news release.

Choi and Dixon were presented with their $5,000 checks at the Myers Scholarship Award Luncheon on Aug. 8 at Elmhurst Hospital.

Choi, a 2017 graduate of York Community High School in Elmhurst, is entering her sophomore year at the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, where she is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering with an emphasis on cellular and molecular bioengineering, the release stated. Her mother, Eunice Choi, is a clinical lab scientist at Elmhurst Hospital.

Dixon, a 2015 graduate of Glenbard South High School in Glen Ellyn, also was a recipient of a Myers Scholarship in 2015. She is entering her senior year at the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, where she is majoring in biology with plans to become a physician assistant, according to the release. Her mother, Elizabeth Dixon, is a business partner in the human resources department at Elmhurst Hospital.

The Myers Endowed Scholarships were first awarded in 2004 in appreciation of the high-quality and compassionate care provided by the staff of Elmhurst Hospital, the release stated.
