Roundup: Brenna Cohoon wins 3,200 to lead Downers Grove South to sixth at Wheaton

Downers Grove South

Brenna Cohoon won the 3,200-meter run in 11:15.84, leading Downers Grove South's sixth-place finish at the Tiger Invitational in Wheaton April 27.

Melissa Weidner was second in the 3,200 (11:20.69) and Maddie Manganiello second in the long jump (17-2.5). The 3,200 relay team of Becky Versaskas, Kelley Hackbarth, Gillian Thomas and Erin Reidy was fourth in 9:42.45.

Hinsdale Central

The Red Devils' 1,600 relay team of Bella Pisani, Ellie Geier, Kayla Byrne and Grace McCabe took third in 4:12.06 at the Tiger Invitational on April 27, and Hinsdale Central's Dior Nicholson took fourth in the shot put (36-1.5) and discus (104-11) as part of the team's seventh-place finish.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Benet

The Redwings took fourth place at the Benet Invitational, losing to Neuqua Valley 25-16, 25-22 in the third-place match. Benet earlier beat Neuqua 26-24, 21-25, 25-22 in pool play.

GIRLS SOCCER

Benet

Cami Picha, Jackie Schuman, Abby Casmere and Kayla Brannigan scored goals, and Lauren Lukitsch had seven saves in goal in Benet's 4-0 win over Sandburg at the Naperville Invitational.

Casmere scored an unassisted goal and Eva Frantzen made three saves in goal in Benet's 1-0 win over Lyons Township on April 26 at the Naperville Invitational. Frantzen had four saves in Benet's 0-0 tie with St. Viator in two overtimes on April 25.

Picha had a goal and an assist and Erin Flynn had two assists in Benet's 6-0 win over Marist on April 24.

BASEBALL

Westmont

Bobby Risden homered and Matt O'Leary doubled and scored two runs, but the Sentinels (11-11, 3-8 Interstate Eight Conference) twice failed to score with the bases loaded and none out in a 7-4 loss to Coal City on April 30.

Michael Kokoszka went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and an RBI in Westmont's 13-6 loss to Herscher on April 27. Riley Basit was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Kokoszka's two-run walkoff single gave Westmont a 7-6 win over Beecher on April 26. Basit doubled twice and had three RBIs in the Sentinels' 6-5 win over Chicago Intrinsic Charter on April 25. Kokoszka had a single, double and RBI in Westmont's 5-3 loss to Sandwich on April 25.

Alex Marotta homered and drove in three runs, and winning pitcher Kokoska struck out seven and went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Westmont's 11-1 win over Plano on April 24.
