Dorrance 'Doc' O. Clemens

STERLING – Dorrance "Doc" O. Clemens, 89, of Sterling, died Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2016, at CGH Medical Center in Sterling.

Doc was born Aug. 19, 1927, in Detroit, the son of Anthony and Laverne (Tobin) Clemens. He served in the Navy during World War II, and later married Phyllis Wessels on Sept. 4, 1950, in New Vienna, Iowa. She preceded him in death on July 11, 2016.

Doc and Phyllis owned and operated D & E Furniture before retiring in August 1992.

Survivors include three daughters, Carla (Tom) Will of Bettendorf, Iowa, Mary Kay (Gary) Buckingham of Oneida, and Elaine (Dave) Keime of Sterling; two sons, Bill (Sally) Clemens of Roscoe and Jack (Abbie) Clemens of Sterling; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; and one brother.

Private family graveside services with military honors will be at a later date at Oak Knoll Memorial Park in Sterling.

A memorial has been established to Happy Tails Animal Shelter in Sterling.
