SHANNON - Virginia M. Bettner, 78, lifelong Ogle County resident, died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2016, at Rockford Memorial Hospital.
She was born May 14, 1938, in Rochelle, the daughter of William and Orva (Sanford) Lansden. She married Raymond “Pat” Bettner on July 14, 1957, in Ashton. He died Aug. 18, 1990. Virginia was a short order cook at various area restaurants for many years. She attended Grace United Methodist Church in Brookville, and was a member of Mount Morris Moose Lodge, where she received her Green Cap and was a senior regent. Virginia enjoyed playing cards, cross-stitch, paint-by-numbers, word search puzzles, country music, flower gardening, attending family sports activities, and the color purple.
She is survived by sons, Douglas (Cathy) Bettner of Forreston, Kenneth (Joyce Bates) Bettner of Polo, Stewart (Beth Vaultonburg) Bettner of German Valley, Patrick (Katie) Bettner of Shannon, and Shawn (Linda) Bettner of Forreston; daughters, Bernadine (Harlan) Grenzow of Juda, Wisconsin, Teresa (John) Nafzger of Brodhead, Wisconsin, Dawn (Joel) Stocker of Monroe, Wisconsin, Priscilla Schumacher of Forreston, Joy Svihlik of Erie, Carlyn Klotzbach of Shullsburg, Wisconsin, and Tina (Chris) Krebs of Monroe; 24 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; grandson, Victor Nafzger; a brother in infancy; and special friend, Sam Swalve.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Farrell-Holland-Gale Funeral Home in Oregon. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with Jerry Martz, pastor of Grace United Methodist Church in Brookville, officiating. Burial will be at White Rock Cemetery in Kings.
