GENOA – Despite striking out 17 times in nine innings, the Burlington Central baseball team found a way to pick up a 4-3 Big Northern Conference East Division victory over Genoa-Kingston in ten innings.
Rockets starter Kyle Creadon battled through seven innings, but did contribute to helping strand nine Genoa-Kingston base runners in the game.
“Burlington (Central) is a very good team,” Cogs coach Roger Butler said. “You can’t strand nine runners on base and beat a team that is that good.”
Creadon struck out six while scattering three earned runs.
David Lauber had two hits, one of which was a double, and scored three runs for the Rockets (10-7, 6-1 BNC East) .
St. Charles North 20, Larkin 0 (5 inn.): At Elgin, Conor Bizik and John LeGare homered to back Jack Lambert's victory on the mound for St. Charles North (13-2, 9-0 UEC River). The North Stars swept their third consecutive conference series.
Geneva 10, Elgin 0 (6 inn.): At Elgin, Geneva finished off a sweep of Elgin thanks to eight strikeouts over six innings from Trevor Wilcox. Justin Hasegawa, Vince MacDonald, Jeremy Davis and Josh Rose all had two hits for the Vikings (13-4, 9-1 UEC River).
St. Francis 14, St. Joseph 6: At Westchester, St. Francis won its eighth straight game to improve to 16-1 overall. Mike Beach homered, while Brett Whelton, Cullen Geary and Liam Poe all doubled. Tommy Mayor picked up the victory for the Spartans on the mound.
Montini 7, Marmion 6: At Lombard, Marmion fell to 8-7 in the Chicago Catholic League loss.
Kaneland postponed: At Morris, Kaneland's Northern Illinois Big 12 East game against Morris was rained out. A makeup date was not immediately announced.
SOFTBALL
St. Charles North 5, Glenbard North 3: At St. Charles, Ashlyn Jozefowicz drove in two runs to help Natalie Walters pick up the pitching victory. Amanda James and Alyssa Eby each had two hits for the North Stars (9-2), while Maddie Webb picked up the save in the seventh.
Batavia 17, East Aurora 1 (4 inn.): At Batavia, Batavia's Rachel Lovestrand hit for the cycle in the rout, going 4 for 4 with four RBIs. She also earned the pitching victory, spacing two hits and four strikeouts in three innings. Jaelen Lisberg also homered for the Bulldogs (8-5, 5-2 UEC River).
Kaneland 7, Yorkville 4: At Maple Park, Aly Jesionowski paced Kaneland with a 4 for 4 afternoon that included two triples. Jesionowski also picked up in the win in the circle, striking out four and allowing two earned runs. Morgan Weber also added two hits and three RBIs for the Knights (11-5, 3-2 NI Big 12 East).
St. Francis 4, Rosary 1: At Wheaton, St. Francis defeated Rosary in Girls Catholic Athletic Conference play.
GIRLS SOCCER
Kaneland 6, Sterling 0: At Sterling, Becca Richtman had two goals for Kaneland in the NI Big 12 East victory. Taylor Zitkus, Kiandra Powell, Abby Taylor and Ashley Crotteau also added goals for the Knights (9-3-1, 2-1-1 NI Big 12 East).
Burlington Central 5, Johnsburg 0: At Burlington, Jordan King scored a goal in each half for Burlington Central (11-3, 8-0 Big Northern Conference East Division).
BOYS TENNIS
St. Charles North 6, Streamwood 1: At St. Charles, St. Charles North remained perfect as a team this season. The North Stars (8-0, 2-0 UEC River) swept doubles play, dropping just four total games in those straight-set victories.
Marmion 5, Montini 0: At Lombard, John King (No. 1) and Josh Dickerson (No. 3) won their singles matches in three sets for Marmion (7-1, 5-1 CCL).
BOYS WATER POLO
York 6, St. Charles North 5: At St. Charles, Nathan Bawolek (3 goals) and John Quinn (2) scored for St. Charles North. Garrett Allamian made eight saves for 7-15 North.
BADMINTON
St. Charles North 8, Geneva 7: At St. Charles, Elizabeth and Meghan Blaszynski won their singles matches, but St. Charles North picked up the UEC victory. The Vikings fell to 5-3 and 4-1 in conference.
