LAKEWOOD, Colo. – Joan N. Mangan passed away Saturday, March 26, 2016, at St. Anthony Hospital in Lakewood.
Born Jan. 29, 1928, to Edward M. and Louise (Burnham) Fogarty in Chicago, she was a 1945 graduate of Chicago's Hirsch High School, who raised her children and lived most of her life in the Rock River Valley of Illinois. Joan loved her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, as well as reading, gardening, baking, fine art, and the Chicago Cubs. She passed her love of reading on to her children, who fondly remember their family trips to the library, each coming home with a grocery bag full of books. She also was a master Scrabble player, trouncing friends and family with ease. Her lifelong love of the Chicago Cubs dated back to radio broadcasts heard in the womb, and, like a true Cubs fan, would often say “Maybe next year!”
She is survived by her five children, Larry (Diane), Kevin, Eileen, Michael (Lori), and Patrick; six grandchildren, Anna (Chris) Dole, Laura (Robert) Snead, Lawrence Daniel III, Sean, Leah, and Erin; two great-grandchildren, Robert Daniel and Hailey Marie Dole; and her sisters, Mary Douglas and Julia Conlon and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry; and her beloved daughter, Jean.
A family celebration will be at a later date.
