PALATINE – Shannon Gatehouse, Chantel Carranza and Hannah Kolb scored second-half goals to lead the St. Charles East girls soccer team past Fremd, 3-0, in the team’s season opener Tuesday. Gatehouse opened the scoring for the Saints with 25 minutes left in the nonconference game. Claire Rasmussen added an assist for East.
Marmion boys tennis wins
AURORA – The Marmion boys tennis team opened its season Tuesday with a 3-2 Chicago Catholic League win over De La Salle. John King got a straight-sets win for the Cadets at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-3, while both of Marmion’s doubles pairings picked up wins.
STCE badminton opens with win
ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles East badminton team cruised past Streamwood, 11-4, in its season opener Tuesday. The Saints won all but two singles matches, including wins by Emma Hardy and Hiral Patel.
Geneva badminton romps
GENEVA – The Geneva badminton team routed Elgin, 14-1, in its season opener Tuesday. Elizabeth Blaszynski, Meghan Blaszynski, Emily Pokornowski and Tristen Williams were among the Vikings’ double-winners.
STCE color guard raising
money for children's hospitals
ST. CHARLES – The St. Charles East color guard team has partnered with Geneva Masonic Lodge No. 139 to help raise money for the Shriners Hospitals for Children – a network of 22 not-for-profit research hospitals in North America.
Today, the color guard team will host the first annual “Toss-A-Thon” as part of its Spring Fever Week, in which team members will perform 100 tosses with their flags. The team has a goal to raise $10,000.
The public is encouraged to send donations or checks made payable to St. Charles East High School, at 1020 Dunham Road, with Attention to Lisa Dandre, and Shriners Hospitals for Children in the memo.
East boys lacrosse gets victory
WHEATON – The St. Charles East boys lacrosse team opened the season with a 17-6 victory over Wheaton Academy Tuesday.

MARENGO – Jordan King opened the season with a hat trick to lead the Burlington Central girls soccer team to a convincing 7-0 win over Marengo in Big Northern Conference East Division play.
Elizabeth Gousios and Anna McMahon each added two goals for the Rockets (1-0, 1-0 BNC East), while Abbi Ciganek and Erin Rafferty combined for the shutout.
