High school boys swimming: Lyons Township roars to first state title

EVANSTON – The third state trophy for Lyons Township’s boys swimming and diving team was certainly the best one yet.

The Lions captured their first state title Feb. 27, in the process ending a state trophy drought that dated to 1974.

LT had 12 all-state, top-12 finishes at the state meet finals at Evanston High School, and they have a chance to have another strong showing next season. Aside from seniors Ben Breitenbucher, Weston Credit, George Lundgren and Chris Phillips, the rest of the team is slated to return to defend the state championship.
