Cabana Charley’s in Sycamore to close Sunday

SYCAMORE – Cabana Charley’s restaurant in Sycamore will close for good Sunday, according to a post on its Facebook page.

Chicago’s Best, a Tribune Media TV show that features restaurants in the Chicago area, profiled the family-owned restaurant in January for its Jambalaya dish, rum buckets and trivia nights.

The restaurant, at 1470 S. Peace Road, hosted regular live music, trivia nights and community fundraisers.

Joe Pivonka, who owns Energize Fitness, the gym next door to the restaurant, said the neighboring business would be missed.

“We go out there after classes sometimes,” he said. “Any time a business closes it will impact those around it, which is unfortunate. But the lease with us isn’t affected, so we will still be going strong, but it’s sad to see a neighbor go.”

Pivonka added in his mind, the shutdown of the restaurant was a wake-up call to support local businesses.

“You never know what is going to happen,” he said. “You don’t want to regret it, if you never make it out to support them and then they are gone.”

Cabana Charley’s owners were not immediately available Friday for comment.
