Area FFA leaders attend camp

Several members of the Somonauk-Leland-Sandwich Future Farmers of America chapter attended the Illinois FFA Leadership Camp at Allerton Park near Monticello from July 28-31.

Those attending included: Kailyn Saltzman, Krysta Watts, Kara Klemm, Emilie Benoit, Allison Glover, Miranda Marek, Lane Mikkelson, Gavin Dannenberg and Ethan Plote.

They were among some 320 campers from across the state that gathered to develop leadership skills and learn more about the FFA. Campers participated in a challenge course to develop teamwork, Ag Olympics, FFA power sessions, a dance and a large water balloon fight to beat the heat.

Members also were engaged in presentations from the Illinois FFA Alumni who sponsored 25 students to be at camp. FFA members also learned from the Illinois Foundation FFA the role they play in the success of the foundation, as well as the benefits and opportunities it provides to FFA members throughout the state. One of the great highlights of the week was guest speaker Andrew Klein, Illinois’ National Officer Candidate, sponsored by Illinois FFA Alumni.

FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of youth by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.
