Kuna resigns head football coaching post at Romeoville

ROMEOVILLE – Romeoville football coach Jeff Kuna resigned recently. Kuna coached the Spartans for seven years, starting in 2008.

Romeoville reached the playoffs under the guidance of Kuna in 2013 and was 5-5 that season. In the 2009 season, the Spartans were 5-4.

The Spartans are looking for a head football coach for the upcoming season and have begun interviewing. Anyone interested should contact athletic director Jim Boudouris, who is retiring this summer, at boudouris@vvsd.org or 815-407-5168.

COLLEGE COMMITMENTS

Football: Dan Foley (Lockport) has announced he will continue his football career at Augustana.

The 6-foot-6, 290-pound offensive tackle was a SouthWest Suburban Blue first-team selection as a senior and earned second-team Herald-News All-Area honors.

Behind Foley, coach Dan Starkey’s Porters averaged 329.9 total yards and 176.9 rushing yards a game and 4.8 yards a carry.

Track and field: Plainfield North’s Jared Samms will continue his athletic career at Briar Cliff. Samms is a six-time letter winner for the Tigers, with four in track and two in football. He competed in five events for Plainfield North as he participated in the high jump, 110-meter and 300 hurdles, the 4x200 relay and 4x400 relay.

He was named all-conference in the 300 hurdles as a junior, while setting the indoor meet record at the Class B Charger Invitational. Samms also served as a team captain as a senior.

LEWIS CITED

Flyers fourth: The Lewis Athletics Department finished fourth in the NCAA Division II Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup. The fourth-place finish is the best in school history, topping the previous high mark of 10th in 2000-01.

Twelve of Lewis’ 20 athletic teams either qualified as a team or had individuals score points for their squad at their respective NCAA championships. The Flyers totaled 647.75 points, the most of any team in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
