DOWNERS GROVE – Past and current South High School students had a big weekend, starting with the induction of six inaugural members into its Distinguished Alumni program Thursday and ending with its homecoming football game and 50th anniversary Friday.
The six inaugural distinguished alumni were honored with plaques on the newly created Alumni Wall of Honor. The new members are Captain Daniel L. Cheever, United States Navy, DGS Class of 1982; Derek Lloyd Choi-Lundberg, Ph.D., neuroscience research and university teaching, Class of 1987; Elaine Fuchs, Ph.D., Professor of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute at the Rockefeller University, Stem Cell Biology and Cancer Research, Class of 1968; Dr. Michael Mendoza, class of 1992; Capt. Kent A. Paro, United States Navy SEAL, Class of 1982; and Dr. Katarina J. Ruscic, Ph.D., Biomedical Research and Anesthesiology, Class of 2002.
On Friday, the school hosted a cookout in celebration of its 50th anniversary preceding the homecoming football game victory against Leyden High School.
