Pathologist testifies Glover, Rankins killed in similar manner

JOLIET – Autopsies showed Eric Glover and Terrence Rankins were slain in a similar manner, a forensic pathologist testifying Monday as Bethany McKee's trial entered its second week.

Forensic pathologist Dr. Valerie Arangelovich was the first witness to testify Monday.

Arangelovich noted Rankins had a one-inch cut on his head and blunt force trauma on his scalp while Glover had trauma to his head and chest. Autopsies were unable to determine if those injuries were inflicted before or after the two men were strangled, Arangelovich said.

"With constant pressure [on the neck], it takes 10 to 30 seconds to lose consciousness [and] three-and-a-half to six minutes of constant pressure to cause irreversible brain damage leading to death," Arangelovich said.

The pathologist testified neither victim showed defensive wounds on their hands. Such injuries would have indicated they were able to fight back against their attacker.

McKee is charged with murder for allegedly luring Glover and Rankins on Jan. 9, 2013, to the residence of Alisa Massaro in the 1100 block of North Hickory Street.

Authorities have alleged that Glover and Rankins, both 23, were killed by Joshua Miner and Adam Landerman as part of a robbery.

All four suspects were charged with murder, but Massaro pleaded guilty to lesser charges in exchange for testifying against the others. Landerman and Miner are awaiting separate trials.
