Meet the 2013 Suburban Life Central all-area girls volleyball team.
Rachel Burau
School: Wheaton Warrenville South
Year: Junior
Impact: This Wake Forest commit did a little bit of everything for the Tigers. A DuPage Valley all-conference selection, the junior setter finished with 670 assists. She also added 169 digs, 92 kills, 33 aces and 36 blocks.
Meg DeMaar
School: Glenbard West
Year: Senior
Impact: A four-year starter for the Hilltoppers, she leaves the program as the all-time leader in digs with 1,776. This fall, the libero produced 501 digs, led the team with 51 aces, and helped Glenbard West to 34 wins.
Sam Dubiel
School: St. Francis
Year: Senior
Impact: Called the best libero she has ever had by coach Peg Kopec, this senior is the defensive leader for the Spartans. Dubiel, who will continue her career at Florida, has totaled 597 digs this fall while also contributing 69 assists and 35 aces.
Maddie Haggerty
School: St. Francis
Year: Senior
Impact: Though her season was cut short due to a torn labrum, this Nebraska recruit had a major impact on the Spartans while she was in there. Third on the team with 144 kills, Haggerty also added 159 digs and 23 blocks.
Molly Haggerty
School: St. Francis
Year: Sophomore
Impact: A top sophomore in both the state and the entire nation, Haggerty has been downright unstoppable this fall. The Suburban Life all-area MVP, Haggerty has notched 319 kills this fall. An improved all-around player, she also has 281 digs, 73 blocks and 39 aces.
Talia Holze
School: Wheaton Warrenville South
Year: Senior
Impact: This outside hitter was one of the top players in the DuPage Valley Conference. Tops on the Tigers with 334 kills, Holze also contributed 143 digs, 42 aces and 17 blocks. She will continue her career at Rutgers.
Maddie Hutchinson
School: Wheaton North
Year: Senior
Impact: A two-year starter for the Falcons and a team captain this fall, Hutchinson was named all-tournament at the Jacobs Invite and was also selected to the DuPage Valley all-conference team. A lefty, she finished with 129 kills and 97 digs to go along with 10 aces.
Mary Kate Katarzynski
School: West Chicago
Year: Senior
Impact: The captain of the Wildcats, this senior can do it all on the volleyball court. A first-team Upstate Eight all-conference performer, Katarzynski led West Chicago with 218 assists and also topped the team with 165 kills.
Natalie Schilling
School: Glenbard West
Year: Sophomore
Impact: Quickly establishing herself as one of the top offensive players in the area, this sophomore seemingly has only scratched the surface. In her second season as a starter, the sophomore outside hitter totaled a team-high 336 kills to go along with 185 digs and 36 aces.
Stephanie Tobison
School: Glenbard North
Year: Senior
Impact: This senior outside hitter was the offensive leader for the Panthers this fall. Showing her all-around skills, Tobison led Glenbard North with 198 kills while posting 242 digs. She also added 25 aces.
Tarah Valdez
School: Glenbard South
Year: Senior
Impact: Named the Metro Suburban Conference MVP, this senior outside hitter played a major role in the Raiders reaching the sectional final. Tops on the team with 265 kills, Valdez also contributed 265 digs, 31 blocks and 28 aces and was selected to the all-tournament team at Wheaton North.
Kenzie Watterson
School: Glenbard South
Year: Sophomore
Impact: Breaking out in a big way this fall after moving from the middle, this outside hitter was a strong offensive force for the Raiders. Second on the squad with 260 kills, Watterson also contributed 208 digs, 39 aces and 30 blocks and was named to the all-tournament teams at Glenbard West and Wheaton North.
