CHADWICK – Kerry M. Greenwald, 66, of Chadwick, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center North in Clinton, Iowa.
Kerry was born April 21, 1947, in Rochelle, the son of B. Morris and Rogene Eloise Greenwald. He graduated from Stillman Valley High School. He then attended Southern Illinois University (SIU) in Carbondale, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in agriculture in 1970. He also completed additional graduate work throughout his life. Kerry was a lifetime member of the SIU Alumni Association, and loved watching SIU basketball. He also enjoyed watching professional sports.
Kerry married the love of his life, Jeannie O’Malley, on April 26, 1969, in Dixon. He worked as an area sales manager for Hughes Hybrids for 40 years, starting when he was 26 years old, and subsequently became a certified crop adviser. Kerry was a member of Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick. He won numerous awards in his youth through FFA (Future Farmers of America) and 4-H. As he grew older, he also won many salesmanship awards, including the Dale Carnegie Award.
Kerry enjoyed the farmer dealers he worked with daily. He brightened everyone’s day as soon as he walked through the door. You knew Kerry was in the room because he always made the people around him smile. Kerry’s main purpose in life was to keep his wife, daughters, and granddaughters happy. Kerry was very thoughtful, sensitive and tenderhearted. He loved taking care of, and spending most of his time with, his family. Kerry always was looking for a hug from his girls.
Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Greenwald of Chadwick; two lovely daughters, Angela (Andy) Shaw of Milledgeville and Jessica Greenwald and husband, Peter Schillaci of Davenport, Iowa; one brother, Rick Greenwald of Rochelle; and four beautiful granddaughters, Ava and Sophie Shaw, and Gracie and Cecilia Schillaci.
