MOUNT MORRIS – Harold M. “Nels” Nelson, 91, died Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Oregon Living and Rehabilitation Center in Oregon.
Nels was born April 22, 1922, in Asbury Park, N.J., the son of Harold L. and Susan (McCoy) Nelson. Nels entered the U.S. Army in 1947. He served in the Army Green Berets. Nels married Nancie Carr McDermott on June 19, 1970, in Rock Island.
Survivors include his wife, Nancie Nelson of Mount Morris; son, Andrew (Ruth) Nelson of Portsmouth, Va.; stepson, Barry (Carol) McDermott of Buhl, Idaho; five grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Nels was preceded in death by his parents; stepson, Robert L. McDermott Jr.; two brothers; and one sister.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Morris. Burial will be at the cemetery.
Finch Funeral Home in Mount Morris is handling arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to Mount Morris Public Library.
