Hinsdale Sapphire capture youth lacrosse tournament title

Sapphire go 5-0 to win Washington Invitational JV title for second straight year

HINSDALE - This year the Hinsdale Sapphire doubled up.

The Sapphire, a youth girls lacrosse team comprised of 7th and 8th grade girls and part of the Illinois Girls Lacrosse Association (IGLA), defeated the Bloomington Normal Warriors 11-7 to win the 2013 Washington Invitational junior varsity girls division championship, for the second consecutive year, on May 19 at Oak Ridge Park in Washington, Ill. (near Peoria).

The Warriors started strong and built a 3-0 lead early in the first half, but the Sapphire fought back with five unanswered goals and never looked back.

To advance to the championship game, Hinsdale went undefeated in pool play by beating the Morton Crusaders 12-5, Chesterton Ind. Trojans 12-3, and the Warriors 6-5 and 12-5. For the tournament the Sapphire outscored its opponents 53- 25.
