DeKALB – A man was airlifted out of Kishwaukee Community Hospital after being involved in a three-car accident on Sycamore Road.
DeKalb police Sgt. Jim Hacker said a red pickup truck southbound on Sycamore Road was turning left onto Barber Greene Road when it collided with a white van traveling northbound that also was turning left.
The collision caused the white van to flip over on its side while the red pickup truck spun in the intersection, hitting a blue Buick Century that was waiting to turn left onto Sycamore Road.
Trevor Carr, 21, and Chris Herrick, 23, had just gotten off of work at Ralph’s Car Wash when the red pickup truck hit their blue Buick.
“All we saw was the truck fly towards us,” Herrick said. “We don’t know who hit who.”
DeKalb firefighters had to cut open the roof of the van to free the driver. DeKalb Fire Chief Eric Hicks could not comment on the medical condition of the driver, nor could he say where he was being airlifted to. Hicks added that there were five other individuals in the accident who did not need medical attention.
Hacker said no citations have been issued to any of the drivers involved in the accident yet. But he said that could change in the future.
No information was available Thursday night.
