Senior Jake Trancoso, 17, of Rock Falls, is Newman Central Catholic High School’s January student of the month. He is the son of Andrew and Nancy Trancoso, 44, and 45, and has a sister, Amanda, 20, a Northern Illinois University student.

Favorite class: Pre-calculus. Math is my favorite subject. There’s only one right answer.

Top teachers: Religion teacher Mrs. Bobbie Hannon and math teacher Mrs. Ann Propheter.

Extracurriculars: Cross country, track, Student Council vice president, Key Club treasurer, Sacristan, Kairos leader and National Honor Society.

After graduation: I’ll attend Illinois State University and major in accountancy. I’ll be running on its cross country and track teams.

Best buds: With my sister, Amanda.

Favorite music: Eminem and Mercy Me.

Favorite actor: Cam Cigandet.

Favorite movie and TV show: “Never Back Down” and “SportsCenter.”

Favorite activity: Running.

Favorite food: Giordano’s deep-dish pizza.

Biggest fear: Losing someone close to me.
