Gorski-Schmidt

Carolyn Gorski and Marc Schmidt of DeKalb were married on July 10, 2010, at First Lutheran Church in DeKalb.

The daughter of Al and Sue Gorski of Rochelle, the bride is a graduate of Rochelle Township High School and Northern Illinois University. Carolyn is employed as a project manager of NET56 in Palatine.

The son of Bob and Lynn Schmidt of DeKalb, the groom is a graduate of DeKalb High School. He is employed by Tom Sparks Auto as service adviser.

Matron of Honor was Kelly Hamill, sister of the bride, of Davis Junction. Attendants were Ella Yasnogorodskaya, friend of the bride, of Buffalo Grove; Dana Wells, sister if the bride, of Newhall, Calif.; and Lori Damask, friend of the bride, of Rochelle.

Ashlee and Kaiylee Mecklenburg of Sycamore were junior bridesmaid and flower girl, respectively, and Carli Schmidt of Genoa was the guest book attendant, all nieces of the groom.

Best man was Matt Schmidt of DeKalb, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Eric Dienst of Maple Park, Jeremy Busse of DeKalb and Brian Block of Palatine, all friends of the groom.

Steve Schmidt of Genoa, brother of the groom, Nick Hamill of Davis Junction, brother-in-law of the bride and Mike Ryan of DeKalb, friend of the groom, all served as ushers. Camden Hamill, nephew of the bride, was the ring bearer.

After a wedding trip to the Riviera Mia in Mexico, the couple makes their home in DeKalb.

90th birthday

Ralph Wallis Sr. of Sandwich will celebrate his 90th birthday on March 16.

Born March 16, 1921, Ralph is a retired plumber from Northern Illinois University.

Ralph and his wife Gertrude are the parents of two sons, Ralph (Peg) Wallis Jr. of Sycamore and Richard (Carolyn) Wallis of Decatur, Ga. They have three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

90th birthday

Henry "Hank" Kinczewski of DeKalb recently celebrated his 90th birthday at a family gathering.

Born Feb. 25, 1921, Hank was a barber for more than 50 years and the owner of Hank's Barber Shop in downtown DeKalb before his retirement.

Rutherford-Smith

Amanda Rutherford and Ryan Smith of West Des Moines, Iowa, are engaged to be married this spring.

The daughter of Steve and Pat Rutherford of Grinnell, Iowa, the bride-to-be attended Grinnell High School, Luther College and University of Iowa Law School. She is an attorney with Cutler Law Firm in West Des Moines, Iowa.

The son of Barry and Duane Smith of Sandwich, the groom-to-be attended Somonauk High School and Eastern Illinois University. He is a GIS analyst for Kum & Go Convenience Stores in West Des Moines, Iowa.

Overby-Sheehan

Madalyn Overby of DeKalb and Andrew Sheehan of Neoga are engaged to be married June 4, 2011, at Sycamore United Methodist Church in Sycamore.

The daughter of Mark and Kathy Overby of DeKalb, the bride-to-be is a 2008 graduate of DeKalb High School. She will graduate from Columbus State University in 2012 with a degree in public health. She is employed by DeKalb County Nursing Home in DeKalb.

The son of Dan and JoAnn Sheehan of Neoga, the groom-to-be is a 2006 Neoga High School. He is enlisted in the United States Army and stationed at Fort Benning, Ga.
