ROCK FALLS – John R. Siperly, 77, of Rock Falls, went home to his Lord on Saturday, April 10, 2010, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford. John was a service officer at the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs for 14 years until his retirement in 1997.

John was born May 23, 1932, in Sterling, the son of Aldis and Emma (Bruesch) Siperly. He was united in marriage to Sally Shaffer on April 2, 1955. She preceded him in death on July 11, 1974. He later married Kathy Rauscher on June 19, 1976, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She survives in Rock Falls.

John served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy. He was a lifetime member of Rock Falls American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5218 and volunteered for Whiteside County’s Veterans Assistance. John was a member of First Christian Church, Rock Falls.

He also is survived by four daughters, Susan (Rick Stoudt) Beaty of Rock Falls, Jill (Ervin) Cornstubble of Lyndon, and Jonna Lawson and Julie (Neil) Jones, both of Rock Falls; three sons, Calvin (Christine) Siperly of Rock Falls, John (Cindy) Siperly of Carol Stream, and Curt (Shelly) Siperly of Rock Falls; one sister, Betty Dimmig of Dixon; one brother, Larry (Shirley) Siperly of Rock Falls; 14 grandchildren; one stepgrandchild; 10 great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters, five brothers, one grandson, and one stepgrandson.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Graveside service with full military honors will be at noon Wednesday at Riverside Cemetery. Following the graveside service, a celebration of John’s life will be at 1 p.m. at Harvest Time Bible Church, Rock Falls, with the Revs. Dalmus Meeks and Ruth Ann Jones, co-officiating. A gathering of family and friends will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at McDonald Funeral Home, Rock Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Home of Hope and First Christian Church, Rock Falls.
