Jose Salome Flores Ortega

STERLING – Jose Salome Flores Ortega, 76, of Sterling, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at SwedishAmerican Hospital, Rockford.

Jose was born Oct. 22, 1933, in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico, the son of Pedro Flores Maldonado and Maria Ortega Reyes. He married Dominga Flores Vasques in 1960 in Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, Mexico.

He was a police officer for 19 years and retired from the Lagos de Moreno, Jalisco, police department. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Sterling.

Survivors include his wife, Dominga of Sterling; two sons, Juan (Velia) Flores of Alburquque, N.M., and Francisco (Maria) Flores of Sterling; three daughters, Martha (Miguel), Maria (Norberto Gomez) Juarez, and Maria (Luis) Estrada, all of Sterling; two sisters, Maria del Refugio Gutierrez of Indiana and Maria Lucia Flores Gallardo of Mexico; one brother, Ramon Flores of Mexico; nephews, Juan (Martha) Jose and Migel (Maricruz) Gallardo, both of Sterling; 12 grandchildren, Diego Juarez, Luis Ernesto Juarez, Cesar Alejandro Juarez, Nancy Juarez, Adrian Juarez, Ramiro Flores, Daniel Briseno, Antonio Flores, Octavio Flores, Arany Flores, Jasmine Estrada, and Emilio Estrada; and three great-grandchildren, Manuel Juarez, Daniela Juarez, and Michelle Juarez.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Jose Antonio Flores.

Celebration of the Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church, Sterling, with the Rev. Jesus Dominguez, celebrant, officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Sterling. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at McDonald-Allen-Grennan Funeral Home, 505 First Ave., Sterling.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
