QUINCY – Cheryl Dawn Burket Hintz, 58, of Quincy, formerly of Dixon, went to be with her Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at her home, after a fearless battle against pancreatic cancer.

She was born Dec. 14, 1951, in Dixon, the daughter of Earl and Lois (Griffith) Burket. Cheryl married Rob Hintz on July 5, 1975, in Dixon. She attended Dixon High School, where she was voted the “Petunia Queen.”

Cheryl received her registered nursing degree from Rockford Memorial School of Nursing, her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing from Graceland University, and certifications as a diabetes educator, oncology nurse educator, and nationally-certified breast cancer nurse.

She was the oncology resource coordinator for Blessing Cancer Center, Quincy, compassionately encouraging patients as they dealt with the cancer battle that she knew so well.

Cheryl also brought much joy as a yoga instructor at Quincy YMCA. She was an active member of The Crossing Church, Quincy, where she was baptized.

Cheryl is survived by her husband, Rob; the loves of her life, sons, Alex, Ryan, and Andy (Jessica); and her cherished grandchildren, Cade and Lily Hintz, and Madison Wise. She also is survived by her precious mom, Lois Burket of Dixon; her beloved sisters (who were also Cheryl’s very best friends), Nancy Lauritzen (children Jason, Derek, and Miranda) of Sterling, and Janice (Mike) Teuscher (sons, Brayden, Riley, Preston, and Jameson) of Rockford; her brother, Curt (Bev) Burket (son, Scott) of Sandwich; and her mother-in law, Teresa Hintz of Dixon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Earl Burket; her father-in law, Bob Hintz; and her sister-in law, Debbie Hintz Major.

Funeral service will begin at 4 p.m. Monday at The Crossing Church, Quincy, with a time of refreshment and community from 4 to 6 p.m. A celebration service of Cheryl’s life will start at 6 p.m.

Instead of flowers, Cheryl requested memorials be directed to the Cheryl Hintz Memorial to benefit Blessing Cancer Center, Quincy, The Crossing Church, Quincy; her boys; or the Cheryl Burket Hintz Foundation, to be set up by Dr. Kathy and Paul Arrambide, to fund alternative cancer treatments which Cheryl hoped would be a blessing to others.
