Firefighters in the New Lenox Fire Protection District spent Thursday afternoon training at a house that was donated to them for training purposes.

The firefighters went through search and rescue training that was led by Lt. Brian Applegate.

The house was filled with smoke from a smoke machine to simulate a real fire and the firefighters had to bring out the “victims.” One of those victims was a 220-pound training dummy.

“It’s required of us as firefighters to do search and rescue activities,” Applegate said.

The firefighters went through two rounds of entering the home and conducting the rescue.
