Crash shuts down Route 53 for 1 hour Thursday morning

Route 53 near Laraway Road was closed for an hour Thursday morning due to a crash with a minor injury.

Shortly before 6:45 a.m., Joliet police officers responded to the area of Illinois Route 53 and Dollar Tree Lane, according to Joliet Police Department spokesman Sgt. Dwayne English.

English said the preliminary investigation showed a semitrailer turning left from Dollar Tree Lane, across the southbound lanes of Route 53, in front of a pickup truck. The truck collided with the semi’s trailer.

The driver of the semitrailer was a 25-year-old man from Lansing, and he was cited in the crash, English said.

The driver of the pickup was a 24-year-old man from Joliet. He suffered a minor injury in the crash and refused medical treatment, English said.
