The Bolingbrook Fire Fighters Association Local 3005 endorsed the acting village mayor in her open race for a full term.
Mary Alexander-Basta was appointed acting mayor last year after Bolingbrook’s longtime leader, Roger Claar, retired from office. She announced in November she would run for a full term in the April election.
Local 3005 lauded Alexander-Basta’s work during her short time in office and said they enjoyed “a positive working relationship” with her as a trustee and then as mayor.
“As mayor, Mary Alexander-Basta has proven that public safety is an important part of her administration’s focus,” the union said in its endorsement letter.
The union cited her reinstatement of a fire chief to lead the department and her work to permanently staff an ambulance at Bolingbrook Fire Station 5.
The union also said she worked with its leadership to negotiate a “fair and equitable multi-year collective bargaining agreement that provides our members with stability during this pandemic.”
Alexander-Basta’s party, the First Party For Bolingbrook, touted the endorsement on its Facebook page saying “(The) Mayor’s commitment to Public Safety is absolutely paramount, as confirmed by this statement.”
The acting mayor has also earned an endorsement from the Painters District Council #14.
Will County Board member Jackie Traynere, D-Bolingbrook, and Bolingbrook Village Trustee Sheldon Watts are also running for mayor in the April election.
The consolidated municipal election is April 6.
