U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood announced her endorsement of Jackie Traynere in her campaign to be the next mayor of Bolingbrook.
Underwood, D-Naperville, endorsed Traynere, D-Bolingbrook, along with 15 other candidates for local office in the 14th Congressional District, according to a news release.
“Running a campaign is hard work, whether you’re running for school board, mayor, or Congress, and you cannot do it alone,” Underwood said in the release. “I am committed to helping these candidates run strong campaigns.”
Underwood has made other endorsements through her Farm Team PAC, or political action committee. The congresswoman formed the PAC to support candidates running for state and local office in her district.
Traynere, who is also a Will County Board member, lauded Underwood for her work in Congress.
“I think she is the future of our country and I am extremely excited to have her endorsement,” Traynere said.
Traynere is running for mayor of the village of about 75,000 people and ran unsuccessfully in 2017. Acting Mayor Mary Alexander Basta and Village Trustee Sheldon Watts are also running.
Underwood’s district includes portions of DeKalb, DuPage, Kane, Kendall, Lake McHenry and Will counties.
