Take 5 Oil Change eyes Joliet site

Take 5 Oil Change plans to open a Joliet location on Jefferson Street.

The company, which specializes in 10-minute, drive-thru oil changes, has 678 locations in 25 states including 16 in Illinois, according to its website.

Take 5 wants to open at 2505 W. Jefferson St., a site most recently used by D’Arcy Motors to display automobiles. The location is next to D’Arcy Hyundai, which will be moved to Essington Road.

The Joliet Zoning Board of Appeals on Thursday will consider a special use permit needed for Take 5 to build at the 1.1-acre site.

Take 5 plans a 1,540-square-foot building with three service bays, a small office and rest room, according to a staff report on the plan.

The business would operate seven days a week: 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays; and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.

The staff report mentions the Take 5 drive-thru business model in which customers stay in their vehicles while getting oil chages.

Take 5 Oil Change locations in Illinois include six in Chicago and the suburbs. The nearest to Joliet is in Woodridge. The company website says it also has locations coming to Palos Heights, Mount Prospect and Schaumburg.

The staff report noted that the site had been a Burger King restaurant until the mid-2000s.
