Joliet zoning board OKs Quick Trip truck stop plan

Tulsa-based fuel store chain wants to build at Route 53 and Laraway Road

Quick Trip got a green light Thursday from the Zoning Board of Appeals for the truck stop it wants to build at Route 53 and Laraway Road.

The Quick Trip planned for the northwest corner would be the third at the intersection, where a Pilot and a Route 66 Food N Fuel now operate.

Quick Trip’s application for a special-use permit next goes to the City Council for a final vote Nov. 16.

Andrew Smith with Tulsa, Oklahoma-based Quick Trip Corp. said after the zoning board vote that he had no firm date yet for when construction may start.

“If everything goes according to plan, we could start construction in the next two to three years,” Smith said.

Quick Trip plans an 8,292-square-foot convenience store, nine fuel pumps for general vehicles and eight pumps for trucks. There would be 26 semitrailer spaces for short-term parking.

Smith told the zoning board that the parking would be for truckers as they use the store, and there would be no overnight parking.

The truck stop is going on a 27-acre site that Smith said would be set up for additional development in the future. Plans include a new road on the site to be called Marcella Avenue.

The property is part of the Glasscock Farm and was annexed into Joliet in 2013 for future development of a truck stop.
