Joliet starts yearlong Essington and Jefferson Interceptor Sewer Project

Daily lane closures on a section of West Jefferson Street in Joliet started Wednesday for a yearlong sewer project.

The right westbound lane between Essington and Houbolt roads will be closed intermittently between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day during construction, the city of Joliet announced.

The Essington and Jefferson Interceptor Sewer Project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022.

The city is installing an 18-inch sanitary sewer that is 3,300 feet long.

The city advised drivers to obey the posted speed limit and signs while watching for workers and flaggers. Cell phones should not be used.
