Cassidy Tire OK’d for Joliet location

Tire center to be built along Route 6 near future connection with Houbolt Road bridge

Cars pass down rt. 6 at the intersection of Hollywood Rd. on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, in Joliet, Ill. A bridge across the Des Plaines River is proposed at the intersection of Rt. 6 and Houbolt Road.

A Cassidy Tire shop is planned near the future Houbolt Road bridge connection with Route 6 in Joliet.

The Cassidy Tire shop is slated to open at 3100 Channahon Road in January and will be located next to a truck stop that also is in the works, according to a Joliet city staff memo on the project.

The Joliet City Council last week approved a special-use permit needed for the tire shop project.

Both the Cassidy Tire shop and future truck stop are to be built in the Ketone Business Center located along the south side of Route 6.

The truck stop is expected to be under construction by January, according to the memo. The brand name for the truck stop has not yet been identified.

Cassidy Tire plans a 19,000-square-foot tire service center with 10 service bays and seven truck parking spaces for passenger vehicles and commercial vehicles, according to the memo.

Construction of the Houbolt Road bridge began this spring. It is expected to be completed in 2023. The bridge will provide a connection between the CenterPoint Intermodal Center and Interstate 80. Houbolt Road will be widened between Route 6 and the Interstate 80 interchange.
