Another Ed Mattox apartment development has been approved.
The Joliet City Council on Tuesday approved final plans for Timber Oaks, which will include 48 apartments in three buildings near the corner of the Interstate 55 Southeast Frontage Road and Timber Ridge Court.
The Timber Oaks approval follows an OK given in March for Timber Pointe, which will include 120 apartments in eight buildings and is located in the same area where McDonough Street ends at I-55.
Both approvals were the last votes needed from the City Council before Mattox’s Kipling Development can move ahead with the projects.
The Timber Oaks plan had been held up for months amid concerns raised by residents in the area. The city at one point required Mattox to send certified letters with information about his plan to neighbors.
At the Tuesday meeting, Councilwoman Jan Quillman read a letter from one resident claiming she had not been sent the letter. Staff went through a stack of certificates confirming who was notified and said that resident had been sent a letter.
The council voted 8-0 for the Timber Oaks plan.
The project, according includes three buildings that will be two and a half stories high with 16 apartments each.
Kipling plans to charge monthly rent of $1,485, according to a city staff memo describing the project.
Apartments will be about 1,100 square feet with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and laundry areas inside each unit. Half of the apartments will come with access to seven detached garages.
