No school Friday at D. 86 in Joliet due to COVID-related staffing shortages

Schools are scheduled to reopen on Tuesday

Joliet Public Schools District 86 will close all schools and buildings on Friday due to COVID-related staffing shortages.

In a letter sent to parents to Distrct 86 parents on Thursday, D. 86 Superintendent Theresa R. Rouse said no remote learning will be offered either. Friday will be a day of non-attendance for both students and staff.

Friday’s school day will be made up on May 31 by using one of the district’s five emergency days that’s in the school calendar. Schools will reopen on Tuesday.

“Thank you for your ongoing support and understanding as we continue to navigate this pandemic,” Rouse said in the letter.

District 86 is not the first school district to face this problem.

Plainfield Community Consolidated School District 202 called off school last Friday and Monday for similar reasons.

Students at Lincoln-Way Community High School District 210 returned to in-person learning Monday after four days of remote learning last week due to COVID-related staffing issues.

Joliet Township High School District 204 said on its Facebook page on Jan. 7 to expect late buses as it returned to in-person learning this week and suggested parents arrange their own transportation, if possible.

Valley View Community Unit School District 365U had three bus routes on Tuesday that did not run, according to its Facebook page.
