A Joliet man was arrested in connection with a drug-induced homicide that occurred three years ago.
On Monday, Dakota Smith, 30, of the 3100 block of September Drive was booked into the Will County jail on charges of drug-induced homicide and delivery of a controlled substance.
Prosecutors charged Smith with those offenses on Feb. 24 following an investigation by the Will County Sheriff’s Office, court records show.
Smith gave fentanyl and acetyl fentanyl to Edward Strysik on March 6, 2019, and the consumption of those drugs caused Strysik’s death, according to the charges.
Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic substance similar to morphine but is 50 to 100 times more potent, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse.
Prosecutors also charged Smith with delivery of substances containing fentanyl and heroin.
A warrant was issued for Smith’s arrest. The warrant carried a $250,000 bond.
Will County State’s Attorney James Glasgow is prosecuting drug-induced homicide cases against Saul Nunez, 44, Kiley Murphy, 33, and Steven Talbot, 34.
Nunez is charged with providing Christopher Shanine, 25, with a lethal overdose of fentanyl.
Murphy and Talbot were charged with giving heroin mixed with fentanyl to Celeste Roppo, 24.
