A man was arrested after he pulled a handgun on two women he was arguing with in the parking lot of Larkin Village Apartments in Joliet, police said.

The investigation of the incident began about 9:45 a.m. on Nov. 2 when officers went to the apartments in the 900 block of Louis Place for a report of a person with a gun, Joliet police said.

Officers arrived on scene and determined a man had pointed a handgun at two women, police said.

“Further investigation revealed that during an argument, the suspect produced a handgun and pointed it at the victims from inside of a vehicle,” police said.

Joliet police Sgt. Dwayne English said the police report did not indicate what the argument was about.

The suspect then fled the parking lot in the vehicle, police said.

Detectives working the case identified Ledell Mims, 35, of the 1400 block of Sehring Street, as the suspect, police said. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.

About midnight Wednesday, Mims surrendered himself at the Joliet Police Department. He went through the booking process and was then released on his own recognizance.

Mims was previously arrested by Joliet police on Dec. 19, 2020 in connection with an incident where he was accused of pointing a handgun at his girlfriend and threatening to harm her, police said.

“The victim retreated to the bathroom to contact 911. Mims came into the bathroom and took the victim’s cell phone and began shoving her with both hands,” police said.

Mims was subsequently charged with possession of a weapon by felon, domestic battery and aggravated assault, court records show.

The case remains pending.
