A Joliet man was killed as he walked across Interstate 55 north of Weber Road in Will County, police said.

About 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Daniel Wolzen, 37, was walking across the southbound lanes of I-55 for reasons that remain unknown, according to a statement released by the Illinois State Police.

The preliminary results of an autopsy on Friday revealed Wolzen died from multiple injuries he suffered after he was struck by a vehicle, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.

Wolzen was struck by a Chevrolet Malibu heading south on I-55., according to police, and a Buick Enclave then hit the Malibu.

Wolzen was pronounced deceased on the scene, police said.

The southbound lanes of I-55 at Route 53 and the left two lanes at the scene were closed for the investigation, police said. All lanes were reopened about 9 p.m. on Thursday.

“The events surrounding the crash remain under investigation and no further information is available at this time,” police said.
