Prosecutors reviewing woman’s arrest in Romeoville

Prosecutors are reviewing a case where a woman was arrested in Romeoville after she was hit by a vehicle and officers reportedly found bags of heroin laying near her personal belongings.

Shortly after 7 p.m. on Oct. 14, officers in Romeoville were sent to the area of Normantown Road and Sedge Meadow Avenue in reference to a vehicle striking a pedestrian, said Romeoville Deputy Police Chief Brant Hromadka.

The woman was taken to AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center in Bolingbrook for her injuries, Hromadka said.

“While investigating the traffic crash, officers located several individually packed bags of heroin laying near the personal belongings of the female victim,” Hromadka said.

The woman, later identified by police as Nori Toovey, 31, was released from the hospital and arrested on probable cause of possession of a controlled substance, according to Hromadka.

Jail and court records showed Toovey has one address in La Salle and a P.O. box address in Granville.

Hromadka said Toovey was crossing the road in a non-designated area and the driver was not cited.

Hromadka said the officer investigating the incident determined that based on the lighting conditions, location and reaction time, the driver was not at fault.

Toovey suffered minor injuries, he said.

Online court records did not show formal charges filed against Toovey in connection with the incident as of Friday.

Hromadka directed questions on charges to the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.

When asked about whether any drug-related charges were filed, Will County State’s Attorney spokeswoman Carole Cheney said the “matter is under review.”

Toovey was arrested again on Oct. 15 by Illinois State Police and formally charged with possessing a stolen motor vehicle.

Illinois State Police Trooper Genelle Jones said troopers were sent to Interstate 80, just west of Route 47, and then to the La Salle Police Department after receiving a call involving an allegedly stolen motor vehicle.

Jones said Toovey was arrested on charges of stolen motor vehicle possession and driving on a suspended license.

Illinois State Police Trooper Elizabeth Clausing did not provide further information Friday on how Toovey came into possession of the vehicle.
