A police standoff with a man who barricaded himself at a Super 8 motel in Romeoville ended with him being safely taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation.
“This incident ended about as well as possible,” Romeoville Police Chief Ken Kroll said.
About 11 p.m. Thursday, Romeoville police responded to the Super 8 motel at 1301 Marquette Drive for a man reportedly waving a gun out the window and yelling threats, Romeoville police said in a news release.
The situation ended about 8:30 p.m. and 8:45 p.m. on Friday, according to Kroll.
“The gentleman whom was barricaded in the room was unharmed,” he said.
Romeoville police, along with the Will County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team, were still on the scene on Friday.

Police said contact had been made with the man multiple times.
“At this time, we are led to believe this man is having a personal crisis and is refusing to come out of the room to meet with first responders,” police said.
Romeoville police worked with Super 8 motel staff to relocate guests and make the immediate area safe.
Kroll said the man was taken to AMITA Health Medical Center in Bolingbrook for the mental health evaluation.
