A Sauk Village man was charged with shooting a gun in the air in the presence of two others in Monee, court records show.

Kevin Lenoir, 28, was taken to the Will County jail on charges of aggravated discharge of a firearm, reckless discharge of a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon.

About 1:44 p.m. Wednesday, officers responded to the 5900 block of Monee-Manhattan Road for a report of shots fired, according to a news release from Monee Deputy Police Chief Anthony Lazzaroni.

Officers were able to locate evidence at the scene and determined no one had been injured, Lazzaroni said.

“Further investigation revealed that this was a domestic-related incident and there was no threat to the public,” Lazzaroni said.

Lenoir was identified as a suspect in the shooting and taken into custody after officers found him in South Chicago Heights, Lazzaroni said..

“This incident remains under active investigation,” Lazzaroni said.

When asked why Lenoir was charged with firing a gun and why he fired one, Lazzaroni said, “I’m sorry, that’s all I can provide at this time.”

A criminal complaint alleged that Lenoir “knowingly discharged a firearm in a reckless manner” and “endangered the bodily safety” of a man and a woman when he “discharged a firearm into the air” in the presence of those two people.

Lenoir was released from jail Friday after posting 10% of his $100,000 bond. As a condition of his bond, he must stay away from the two alleged victims and not possess any firearms, ammunition or dangerous weapons.

On Dec. 16, 2016, Lenoir pleaded guilty to possessing a firearm with a defaced serial number while another charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon was dropped.

Lenoir was sentenced to 24 months of probation. Prosecutors petitioned to revoke his probation after finding he tested positive for marijuana multiple times but withdrew the petition on Aug. 30, 2018, court records show.

On Dec. 10, 2018, Lenoir completed his probation and his conviction was vacated.
