Joliet woman arrested in Feb. 14 vehicle battery case

A Joliet woman has been apprehended on charges alleging she struck a woman with an SUV in Joliet about nine months after a warrant was issued for her arrest.

Shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday, Dominique Cooley, 31, was taken to the Will County jail on charges of aggravated battery and criminal damage to property in connection with the Feb. 14 incident.

Judge Fred Harvey signed a warrant for Cooley’s arrest on April 8. The warrant carried a $10,000 bond.

Prosecutors alleged Cooley drove a black Saturn SUV into Joyce Caesar, 32, who was a pedestrian in the 300 block of Des Plaines Street in Joliet, according to the indictment. Cooley was also charged with damaging Caesar’s silver Honda Pilot.

Cooley posted 10% of her bond and was released at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Caesar previously pleaded guilty to shooting an air pistol at Cooley on May 27, 2018, court records show.

Since 2018, both women have petitioned for protective orders and filed small claims complaints against each other.

Caesar submitted a petition for a protective order on Aug. 25 that claimed Cooley broke windows on the side of her house before she took off running.

“She is riding by my house and bothering my children by calling them names and telling them that she would beat them up like she beat their mother up, me,” Caesar’s petition said.

Cooley did not appear at the Aug. 25 court hearing on the protective order.

Judge M. Thomas Carney denied Caesar’s petition because she did not sustain the burden of proof, court records show.

When a bailiff gave Caesar the dismissal order, she threw it on the floor and left the courtroom, court records show. A court security officer reported Caesar called the bailiff “fat” and said Carney “is old and has grey hair.”
