A Joliet man was jailed on a $1 million bond after he was charged with the predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.

Joel Lopez-Reyes, 42, of the 2600 block of East Cass Street was booked into the Will County jail at close to 3 p.m. on Dec. 17 in connection with the incident.

Lopez-Reyes was charged with engaging in sexual contact with a female minor who was under 13 on Aug. 25, 2019, according to court records.

Lopez-Reyes was investigated by the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

On Dec. 10, Judge Art Smigielski signed a $1 million warrant for the arrest of Lopez-Reyes on charges of predatory criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and aggravated criminal sexual assault.

The warrant said Lopez-Reyes is employed at Kazador Boots on Cass Street.

Smigielski ordered the case sealed from public view because it “contained information regarding an ongoing criminal investigation.”

On Friday, Judge Dave Carlson unsealed the case and ordered Lopez-Reyes’ bond to remain at $1 million. Lopez-Reyes will need to post $100,000 for his release from jail.
