Will County Health Department invites public to women’s health event Nov. 1

Joliet officials say they need more information from the Will County Health Department to get moving on city plans to provide COVID-19 vaccinations.

The Will County Health Department is hosting a Well-Woman Day Wednesday that is open to the public.

The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Community Room of the Will County Health Department’s main office at 501 Ella Ave., Joliet.

The Well-Woman Day will feature complimentary health screenings, educational resources and giveaways, according to a news release.

Insurance enrollment counselors from the Will County Community Health Center also will be on hand to help on the first day of open enrollment for the Affordable Care Act marketplace, according to the release.

The event represents a partnership between the Will County Health Department and other local agencies: Silver Cross Hospital, Will-Grundy Medical Clinic, Ascension Saint Joseph, Oak Street Health, the National Alliance on Mental Illness Will-Grundy, Quest Diagnostics, Future Diagnostics Group, Blueprint Agency, Joliet Township government and the Will County Mobilizing for Action through Planning and Partnerships.

The event marks the second consecutive fall that the Will County Health Department’s Well-Woman program has hosted a Well-Woman Day event.

The purpose of the Will County Health Department’s Well-Woman program is to increase knowledge and awareness of well-woman visits and resources available in the community to receive these services, according to the release.

A well-woman visit is a once-a-year checkup of your health, just for women, that typically is covered by insurance.

Illinois Medicaid covers many preventive services, including an annual well-woman visit to the doctor, according to the release. Funding for the Will County Health Department’s Well-Woman program is provided in whole or in part by the Illinois Department of Public Health’s Illinois Title V Program.
