Joliet Catholic took down St. Edward, 50-36, to open their boys basketball season on a high note Tuesday in the Burney Wilkie Classic in Aurora.
Alex Brown led JCA (1-0) with 14 points, while Anthony Birsa and Kyle Simon each scored nine.
Lemont 58, Sandburg 55: At Orland Park, Rokas Castillo scored 16 points to lead Lemont to victory.
Nojus Indrusaitis added 12 points and eight rebounds in the win.
Lincoln-Way West 67, Reavis 29: At New Lenox, the Warriors picked up a win in their home opener.
Jason Harris led West (4-1) with 13 points and Eli Bach scored nine.
Yorkville 55, Plainfield North 48: At Yorkville, Mason Delaney was the top scorer for North with 15 points.
Joliet West 55, Plainfield Central 49: At Plainfield, the Tigers opened Southwest Prairie Conference play with a win over the Wildcats.
Minooka 70, Oswego 48: At Oswego, Ricky Hill Jr. led Minooka with 29 points, and Nick Andreano added 12.
Lockport 71, Thornridge 25: At Lockport, Dom Crapia led the Porters with 13 points in the win, and Alex Vassilakis added 10. Lockport (4-0) was 13 for-22 from 3-point range.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Plainfield East 67, Joliet Central 46: At Plainfield, the Bengals were too much for the Steelmen to handle in SPC action. Jocelyn Trotter led the way for East with 15 points and eight rebounds.
Minooka 63, Oswego 40: At Oswego, Minooka won behind 19 points from Brianna Simmons.
Kinzie Caves added 16 points for Minooka (2-2).
Seneca 47, Reed-Custer 30: At Braidwood, the Irish dashed out to a 20-1 lead to end the first quarter then coasted to victory.
Kennedy Hartwig scored 16 points for Seneca (5-2), while Emma Smith and Cassia Buchanan added eight apiece.
GIRLS BOWLING
Joliet Central 2,219, Oswego East 2,202: At Strike & Spare, Yesenia Velasco led the way for the Steelmen in a victory over the Wolves.
Velasco had the high game for Joliet Central with a 484 and its high game of 176. Jenna Swenson had the event’s high series with a 563 for Oswego East, as well as the high game with a 193.
