Lincoln-Way West opened the boys basketball season on the right foot Monday in Oak Lawn with a 69-65 win over Sandburg at the Oak Lawn Classic.
Quentin Villa and Jason Harris put up 24 points apiece in the victory, and Tyler Gabriel knocked down some key free throws down the stretch.
Bloom 61, Lincoln-Way Central 56: At Chicago Heights, the Knights fell just short to the host of the Bloom Invitational.
Jack Vetger scored 19 points in the loss, while Pat Barry and Jack Barrett added 10 points apiece.
Maine South 70, Lincoln-Way East 61: At La Grange, the Griffins lost a tough one to Maine South at the Lyons Thanksgiving Tournament.
Tylon Toliver led the Griffins with 20 points, and George Bellevue added 16.
Morris 55, Gardner-South Wilmington 20: At Coal City, Morris opened its season with a one-sided win over the Panthers at the Coal City Tournament.
Cale Halpin had 10 points for G-SW.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Providence 56, Beecher 37: At Beecher, Providence took down the Ladycat Classic’s host to earn a spot in Tuesday’s championship game against St. Laurence.
Gabi Bednar scored 17 points in the win, Annalise Pietrzyk scored 15, and Kelly Knight added 11 points.
Reed-Custer 37, Gardner-South Wilmington 32: At Gardner, Brooklyn Harding led the Comets with 14 points in a road win over the Panthers.
Addi Fair led all scorers with 16 points for G-SW (0-5).
Oak Forest 56, Peotone 35: At Beecher, the Blue Devils fell to 2-2 overall with a loss to Oak Forest at the Ladycat Classic.
Madi Schroeder scored 12 points in the loss, Danielle Piper added nine, and Mady Kibelkis chipped in with seven.
Seneca 50, Midland 18: At Varna, the Irish stomped Midland on the road to improve to 3-2.
Seneca’s Kennedy Hartwig and Carly Greve scored nine points each, and Emma Smith had seven.
