High school sports roundup for Monday, May 24

Landen Looper struck out nine in a complete-game effort, his offense backed him with three homers, and Lincoln-Way East’s baseball team remained undefeated in the Southwest Suburban Conference with a 9-2 win over host Lockport on Monday.

Matt Michaels, Randy Seymour and Joey Boland all went deep for the Griffins (21-2, 4-0). Looper aided his own cause with a pair of hits, and Jake Petak also had two hits in the win.

Reed-Custer 7, Lisle 0: At Lisle, senior righty Blake Bishop threw a no-hitter, striking out 13 in the Illinois Central Eight Conference game.

The Comets (14-5) received two hits apiece from Jarrett Goodwin, Corey Burch, Jake McPherson and Connor Esparza. Jack Stellano, Robbie Fordonski and Dylan Garrelts added a hit each.

Lincoln-Way Central 11, Andrew 0: At Andrew, Ryan Kraft, Turner Doran and Colin Mowry all hit home runs to power the Knights in the SWSC game.

Mike Maloney, Doran, Liam Rossi and Jack Novak all had two hits for Lincoln-Way Central (15-3, 6-0). Kraft threw all five innings, striking out seven and walking none.

Lincoln-Way West 10, Sandburg 2: At Sandburg, Cole Crafton was 3 for 4 to lead the Warriors’ offense in their SWSC win.

Kaleb Wilkey, Aidan Healy, Harrison Scroggins, and Collin Murray also had multiple hits for Lincoln-Way West.

Reagan King pitched four innings for the win, allowing one hit and one run with seven strikeouts.

Joliet Catholic 9, Benet 4: At Joliet Catholic, the Hilltoppers improved to 17-11 overall and 11-4 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.

Luka Radicevich had three hits, including two doubles, Mike Ascencio was 2 for 4, and Ben Stoner added two RBIs. TJ Schlageter improved to 3-1 with 4⅓ innings of one-run ball.

Joliet West 3, Plainfield Central 1: At Joliet West, the Tigers took the lead in fifth of the Southwest Prairie game.

Nate Buchan (double) and Andrew Boekeloo were both 2 for 3 for Plainfield Central (15-8, 7-6), and Josh Cuniff had a single and sacrifice fly. Tanner Wagnon allowed three runs (two earned) in five innings.

Wilmington 8, Peotone 6: At Peotone, Jack Narine homered and drove in two runs for the Wildcats, who built an 8-0 lead through four innings in the ICE contest.

Ryan Banas and Kaden Humphries (two RBIs) were both 2 for 4 for Wilmington. Banas and Nolan Rickmon both doubled, and Justin Walinski tripled and drove in a run.

Tim Mills struck out 10 and allowed two runs (one earned) in 5⅓ innings in notching the win.

Streator 11, Coal City 4: At Streator, Ashton Harvey went 3 for 4 for the Coalers in their ICE defeat.

Chase Wasielewski was 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI for Coal City, and Alec Lovell went 2 for 3.

SOFTBALL

Lincoln-Way Central 4, Andrew 1: At Andrew, Lyndsey Grein earned her 21st win of the season, striking out nine in a complete-game effort.

Isabella Wilkerson went 1 for 3 and drove in two runs for the Knights, who improved to 22-2 overall and 5-1 in the SWSC.

Reed-Custer 15, Lisle 4: At Lisle, Grace Moyers picked up the Illinois Central Eight win In seven innings, allowing four runs on eight hits, while posting six strikeouts and zero walks.

Grace Cavanaugh homered, tripled and drove in four runs for the Comets, who put up nine runs in the seventh inning. Abby Sunday and Halie Lagrange each had three hits. Jessica janopoulous had a two-RBI double in the seventh.

Lemont 15-15, Bremen 0-0: At Bremen, the Indians didn’t allow a hit in a sweep to improve to 21-3 overall and 17-0 in the South Suburban Conference.

In Game 1, Emma Kucharski went 2 for 3 with a homer and six RBIs, and Frankie Rita was 3 for 4 with a double, an RBI and three runs scored. Sage Mardjetko pitched four innings, striking out nine and not walking a batter.

In Game 2, Kucharski was 3 for 4 with another home run, two doubles and five driven in. Jackie Wencl finished 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI. Maddy Wallace pitched four innings, striking out eight and not issuing a walk.

Wilmington 10, Peotone 3: At Peotone, Jessica Castle earned the win and helped herself at the plate by going 4 for 4 with a triple, double and three RBIs in the ICE contest.

Jenna Jackson was 2 for 3 with a tri[ple, double and an RBI, and Raena DelAngel went 2 for with an RBI. Kaitlyn O’Donnell also doubled.

Peotone (6-9, 5-7) was led offensively by Mady Kibelkis, who was 2 for 4, and Emma Harden, who doubled and knocked in two runs.

Providence 10, Nazareth 8: At Nazareth, the Celtics received two hits apiece from Ava Jeziorski (2 for 2, RBI), Grace Golebiowski (2 for 3, RBI), Gianna Russo (2 for 4, double, two RBIs) and Gillian Jones (2 for 3, two RBIs).

Corey Maloney contributed a triple for Providence.

Yorkville 2, Lincoln-Way West 1 (8 inn.): At Lincoln-Way West, the Warriors dropped the nonconference game in extra innings.

Allie Wondrasek went the distance in the circle for Lincoln-Way West, striking out 10 while allowing five hits and two walks.

Lexi Castaneda hit a solo homer for the Warriors, Zoe May was 2 for 3 with a double, and Julia Czart went 1 for 3.

Seneca 15, Spring Valley Hall 9: At Spring Valley Hall, Addie Bland hit an inside-the-park homer, singled, scored three times and drove in four runs for the Irish in their nonconference win.

Maggie Carpenter was 3 for 4 with two doubles, three runs scored and two RBIs. Seneca (17-3) also received a 3-for-4 effort from Sam Vandevelde, who tripled, scored two runs and knocked in two.

GIRLS SOCCER

Lincoln-Way Central 3, Bradley-Bourbonnais 0: At Bradley-Bourbonnais, the Knights remained undefeated in SWSC action as Sarah Borsellino, Jenni Andjelic and Reagan Schultz all scored.

Melica Kenworthy, Megan Hutchinson and Andjelic all had assists, and Alexa Hadley earned the shutout in goal.

Lincoln-Way Central improved to 11-1-2 overall and 7-0 in the conference.

BOYS VOLLEYBALL

Marist 2, Lincoln-Way Central 1: At Lincoln-Way Central, the Knights fell 23-25, 25-9, 25-18 in the nonconference match.

Luke Mostello had 12 digs and two assists for Lincoln-Way Central (6-6), and Cody Teske had four kills and one block.

BOYS TENNIS

Lincoln-Way Central 6, Bradley-Bourbonnais 1: At Lincoln-Way Central, the Knights improved to 12-4 overall and 3-1 in the SWSC.

Oak Forest 5, Lincoln-Way West 2: At Lincoln-Way West, the Warriors lost in nonconference action.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Lincoln-Way Central 24, Minooka 4: At Minooka, the Knights improved to 13-0 overall and 11-0 in the conference.
