Freshman southpaw Jake Gimbel made the most of his varsity baseball debut, pitching a complete-game three-hitter to lead Joliet Catholic to a 7-0 win over host Coal City in nonconference action Thursday.
Gimbel struck out 10 and walked two in his 88-pitch gem. The Hilltoppers (6-8) received two hits apiece from Luka Radicevich (double), Ben Stoner, Brody Munch and Lorenzo Rios (double).
Reed-Custer 2, Grant Park 1: At Reed-Custer, Blake Bishop allowed one run on two hits over five innings as the Comets improved to 8-2 with the nonconference win.
Dylan Garrelts threw two scoreless innings to earn the save. Offensively for Reed-Custer, Corey Burch and Jarrett Goodwin led the way with a pair of hits each. Jack Stellano, Connor Esparza and Jacob Pfeiffer added a hit apiece.
Wilmington 5, Herscher 2: At Wilmington, Kaden Humphries struck out 11 and didn’t walk a batter in a complete-game effort for the Wildcats in their Illinois Central Eight Conference win.
Humphries allowed only one earned run and five hits, and he helped himself with a double and an RBI. Nolan Rickmon hit a solo homer, and Tysen Meents went 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Loyola 4, Providence 0: At Providence, Ryan Jefferson and Justin Janowski had the only hits for the Celtics, who fell to 9-7 overall and 0-3 in the Chicago Catholic League.
Seneca 12, Woodland 1: At Woodland, the Irish won in five innings.
Beecher 10, Peotone 6: At Peotone, Ryan Marsh doubled three times and knocked in two runs for the Blue Devils in their ICE loss.
Kade Hupe (1 for 3) also had two RBIs for Peotone.
Minooka 4, Plainfield North 2: At Minooka, the Tigers got solid pitching from starter Tom Fitzgerald and Austin Simmons in the Southwest Prairie Conference loss, as they scattered seven hits.
Plainfield North (8-3, 3-3) got a double and two RBIs from Alex Brodie.

Plainfield Central 18, Romeoville 6: At Romeoville, the Wildcats pounded out 18 hits, including seven doubles, by 11 players in the Southwest Prairie game.
Leading the way offensively for Plainfield Central were Paige Williams (2 for 5, two doubles, four RBIs, two runs), Courtney Werner (2 for 3, triple, three runs, two walks) and Tricia Hogrefe (2 for 3, double, RBI, two runs).
Beecher 19, Peotone 5: At Peotone, Emma Herder was 2 for 3 with a homer, double and three RBIs for the Blue Devils in their nonconference loss.
Grace Vowell went 3 for 4 with a double for Peotone, which also got two hits apiece from Madyson Kibelkis, Mackenzie Strough and Emma Spagnoli.
Providence 11, St. Laurence 4: At Providence, Corey Maloney was 3 for 4 with a double, Nicole Mucha earned the win and helped herself with a double, and the Celtics captured the Chicago Public League victory.
Providence (7-7, 3-1) got two hits apiece from Ava Jeziorski, Amanda Zbonski (RBI), Allysa Ibarra (triple, two RBIs) and Gillian Jones (double, RBI). Nicole Magdziasz contributed double.
Abby Johnson’s first save helped Mucha improve to 5-4.
Lemont 13, Tinley Park 0: At Tinley Park, Maddy Wallace fired a five-inning no-hitter, striking out 12 and not walking a batter as the Indians remained perfect in the South Suburban Conference.
Raegan Duncan (double, triple, two RBIs, three runs, walk), Maggie Militello (RBI, two walks) and Kaylee Purgatorio (two RBIs) each had two hits for Lemont (10-3, 9-0).

Olivia Calderone had a hit and three RBIs for Lincoln-Way West. Katelyn Kundys went the distance, for the win allowing three earned runs and seven hits while striking out one.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Lincoln-Way Central 2, Andrew 0: At Lincoln-Way Central, Will Hinchliffe slammed 11 kills and served an ace, and the Knights captured a 25-23, 25-22 win in SWSC action.
Jared Garcia dished out 21 assists for Lincoln-Way Central (3-4, 2-3). Luke Mostello and Evan Pagliaro (two blocks) tallied 11 digs each. The Knights’ other contributors included John Schmitt (four kills, three blocks, seven digs) and Michael Greco (four kills, seven blocks).
Lincoln-Way East 2, Lockport 0: At Lincoln-Way East, the Griffins won the SWSC match, 25-14, 25-23.
Lockport (7-2, 4-1) was led by Matt Arens (11 kills), Braeden Goebbert (three kills) and Tyler Jenczimionka (11 assists).
Lincoln-Way West 2, Homewood-Flossmoor 0: At Homewood-Flossmoor, the Warriors won the SWSC match, 25-21, 25-15, receiving eight kills from Ryan McDonald, 10 digs from Ricky Castillo and 18 assists from Garret Konopack.
