Lyndsey Grein struck out 15 batters in a complete-game effort and went 4 for 4 with a double and three RBIs, leading undefeated Lincoln-Way Central to a 10-5 win over visiting Providence in nonconference softball action Monday.
Grein allowed one earned run in improving to 8-0, the same record as the Knights.
Isabella Wilkerson and Grace Kmak homered for Lincoln-Way Central.
For Providence (3-4), Gianna Russo was 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Corey Maloney hit a home run.
Lockport 10, Plainfield Central 5: At Lockport, the Porters scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Plainfield Central had grabbed a 5-3 advantage in the top of the inning on a two-run triple by Paige Williams. A double by Kaia Garnica and walk to Emma Polanski had preceded Williams’ triple.
Garnica was 2 for 3 with two doubles and two RBIs for Central.
Seneca 3, St. Bede 0: At St. Bede, Seneca’s Maggie Carpenter struck out 17 batters in the nonconference game.
Carpenter (1-2) walked seven but allowed just one hit. Freshman Sam Vandevelde gave the Irish (2-2) all the runs they needed with a two-run homer in the fourth. Zoe Hougas (1 for 3) knocked in the final run.
Streator 6, Reed-Custer 4: At Streator, the Comets gave up four runs in the first inning of their loss.
Grace Moyers struck out five with no walks. Naomi Gomez and Grace Cavanaugh each doubled. Gomez and Mya Beard each had two hits.
Herscher 21, Peotone 11: At Herscher, the Blue Devils lost the Illinois Central Eight game in six innings, despite homers from Emma Herder and Alyssa Pasch.
Herder (2 for 3) hit a three-run shot, while Pasch connected for a solo blast. Mackenzie Strough was 2 for 4 for Peotone (1-3, 0-3).
Joliet Catholic 4, Nazareth 3: At Nazareth, the Angels (7-3) had four hits in winning the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
In the top of the seventh, Mack Brow had the game-winning hit, leading to three runs by the Angels. Andie Broniewicz went the distance for the win.
BASEBALL
Seneca 7, St. Bede 6: At St. Bede, the Irish hung on for the victory, despite allowing four runs in the bottom of the seventh.
Brayden Roe went 3 for 4 with a triple and two RBIs.
Herscher 12, Peotone 0: At Herscher, the Blue Devils managed only four singles in their five-inning loss.
Brock Krska and Kade Hupe each had a single and a walk for Peotone.
Lincoln-Way West 15, Stagg 5: At Lincoln-Way West, Glenn Jackson had three hits, including a homer and two doubles, and five RBIs for the Warriors.
Lincoln-Way West lefty Nolan Larson pitched three innings, allowing one hit and no runs while striking out three.
Plainfield North 9, Oswego 6: At Plainfield North, Ryan Silva (1-0) pitched 6⅓ innings, allowing three runs in earning the win, as the Tigers won their Southwest Prairie Conference opener to improve to 4-0.
Jake Rock was 2 for 4 with a double for Plainfield North, Dylan Evans belted a two-run homer, and Ryan Nelson had a double and two RBIs.
Coal City 11, Lisle 4: At Lisle, Kaelen Natyshok hit a grand slam, highlighting the Coalers’ win.
Chase Wasielewski (three RBIs) and Aydan Murphey (double) both went 3 for 4 for Coal City.
BOYS TENNIS
Lincoln-Way Central 4, Lincoln-Way East 3: At Lincoln-Way Central, the Knights won the nonconference dual meet to improve to 3-0.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Plainfield South 2, Joliet Central 0: At Joliet Central, the Cougars captured a 25-13, 25-16 decision.
